Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) again spreading misinformation

Trade union Solidarity appeals to human resource managers and the public not to be misled by the Commission for Employment Equity (CEE). Solidarity today criticised the commission for continuing a countrywide road show to present its latest erroneous report on racial transformation in workplaces.
The trade union is of the opinion that the report, which is being presented in Cape Town today, is fraught with basic numerical errors and faulty arguments. Moreover, it shows a lack of understanding of the labour market. The Solidarity Research Institute (SRI) has been highlighting the serious flaws in the CEE’s annual report on racial distribution in the labour market since 2007.
Paul Joubert, senior researcher at the Solidarity Research Institute, says the CEE’s reports should not be used as guideline for race policy in the workplace. “Affirmative action is a highly sensitive topic in South Africa. It is therefore important that the policy and its implementation not be influenced by misperceptions. It is unacceptable that the commission continues to spread findings proven to be faulty and inadequate to employers and the public, and to simply ignore criticism in this regard,” Joubert says.
